Planning For Catastrophe on a Community Level
Problem:

- Fatalities: (a killing event) Make plans for evacuations, rehabilitation, disposal areas, identifying individuals easier by knowing names and numbers of people in households and where they are supposed to relocate.
- Malnutrition and Medical Needs: Designate locations to store and organize food, medical supplies, and other needed goods.
Disarray: Develop a planned approach to addressing different catastrophes. When, Where, Who, How?
-Public Hygeine: Have locations for sewage and sanitary needs.
-Reconstruction: Decide which infrastructures are most important to address first.
-Know Where To Get Help: Have Agencies and Organizations already in mind in case outside help is required and possible.

Context:

When: In the event ofa major catastrophe.
Where: Cities
Who: Entire communities; residents, business owners, institutions (broken down by neighborhoods).

Discussion:

-Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Floods, Pandemics, etc.
-Preparation is key in order for quick recovery.
-Evacuations, responses, stored food and medical supplies, designated sites and facilities for treatment, communication, sanitation.

Solution:

- Calls for neighborhoods to prepare to draw from local resources in case of disaster.
- Make plans and practice your designated responsibilities.
- Know your leaders and where to go after catastrophe occurs so you can facilitate the planned actions. For example, your local grocery store or hospital is the infrastructure where you meet, the head advocate is already designated, and pre-instilled plans are already made. Example: food, temporary shelter, medical care, etc. is outlined so you know how long you can survive, how many you can treat, and what is possible.
- Public Health is key so provide a means of sanitation and prevention of infectious diseases (areas of quarantine, clean-up, disposal, sewage, treatment, etc.)
