Veterans Affairs and the Homeless
Submitted by snojul13 on Mon, 2016-01-25 19:34
Last week we had most of our members available. We had planned on taking a field trip to Quixote Village to take a look at the homes that are set aside for homeless individuals and also visit the warming facilities available downtown in search of needs and wants of our veterans. The scheduled trip I had planned conflicted with an 8 credit project trip so hopefully we can do it next weekend. I spoke with VFW, Billy Reese asst. quartermaster, to assess the amount of involvement they have with homeless veterans. They are mostly limited to initial crisis intervention and referral services. I also spoke with Josh Black project manager for the Pathways program that is designed to help downtown homeless folks. He gave me additional information and contacts for people that are helping the homeless downtown.
