Volunteer Cluster

Last week I started research on volunteerism as it relates to students in the Tumwater School District. In summary;
Students are required to complete 30 hours of community service prior to graduation
They are allowed to do a wide variety of community service. There are almost no limits on what qualifies as community service.
They are required to do an oral presentation to a panel outlining their community service experience
There is no volunteer fair or anything similar to show students what community service opportunities are available.
Volunteerism completed by the student can be a key factor in submission to college selection.
I think there may be great potential in researching this concept further; the idea of student volunteerism. I am planning on meeting with career counselors at both Tumwater high schools and see what insight they can provide.
